Pretty Little Liars - The Complete Third Season
"Pretty Little Liars" has proven that shows aimed at the teen demographic can still be really smart. The third season, available on DVD, has managed to provide clues, but still keeps you wondering who is "A" and who killed Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse).
Spencer Hastings (Troian Bellisario), Hanna Marin (Ashley Benson), Emily Fields (Shay Mitchell), and Aria Montgomery (Lucy Hale) have discovered that Mona (Janel Parrish) was "A" and tormenting them. However, they soon learn she's only part of a network of invisible threats and dangers under the management of a young woman in a "red coat." Over the course of the season, more "A" accessories will appear but mysteries are still ready to be solved.
The DVD set includes a cute featurette, "Pretty Little Liars and the "A" Network." It includes interviews with the actors and producers. They review suspects, clues about Mona's identity as "A" and even some alternate takes that revealed different characters as part of the "A" network. These alternate takes are part of the episode "Lady Killer" and are included with that episode. The deleted scenes vary in interest level and are often random moments to long for the episode.
The "gag reel" is funny because for such a dramatic show the cast members often get the giggles and play pranks on each other. Also included are webisodes which include the "A" character, in the infamous black hoodie, setting up part of a trap or message from the episodes. They do up the creepy factor but do not add much more info to the series as they are only around ten seconds.
"Pretty Little Liars" is able to stay fresh despite having not revealed the identity of the infamous murder or the secret tormentor. The soap operatic moments and breathtaking reveals make the show super engaging and smarter than you'd expect.
