Jackée Harry :: Making Sweet NEWS in NYC

When sitcom star Jackée Harry stepped into the role of Sandra Clark, the tight-dressed temptress on the 80's hit comedy "227," she couldn't have imagined the impression she'd have on television. Her Emmy winning turn as the vampy arch-type certainly paved the way for similarly sexy leading ladies like Kim Cattrall's Samantha on "Sex and the City." It's no surprise that such provocative characterizations have a way of winning over droves of gay fans.

As such, Jackée is preparing herself to give the boys (and girls) just what they want when Harry returns to the New York City stage. She'll begin a limited engagement in the fan-favorite and topically poignant "NEWSical The Musical" at the Kirk Theatre on 42nd Street in New York City. "Well you know what they say," she wittingly delivered, "if you can make it in New York can make it back to LA." Jackée coupled that quote with her signature laugh.

The show's producer, the widely talented Tom D'angora couldn't be more pleased to have Jackée as the latest celebrity to join the comedy musical. "Jackée is such a comedic genius," D'angora said, "that I can't begin to imagine how exciting her contribution to the show will be. As a life long fan of her work - she never disappoints." The show has attracted favored guest stars from stage, popular-culture and television.

From Screen to Stage...

Since her celebrated turn as Sandra Clark the scope of television has drastically changed, and Jackée Harry has had to adapt and remain relevant to today’s audiences. The advent popularity of reality television has switched the game. "We all thought it would be temporary, but it’s here to stay," observed the actress, who is also a director and producer. "Magically the level has been upped, and the way you do television has to be better." With the growing number of television networks available to viewers of every taste, television has certainly expanded beyond the days of "must see TV".

Fortunately, Jackée has always remained ahead of the curve. "You have to stay on top of things - it keeps you alive. You have to be in it to win it." The comedic actress has continued to pursue roles in television, as well as challenged herself in dramatic portrayals. She has faith that television is on an upswing with hit shows like "Modern Family" and "Two and a Half Men" on the radar. "We need more and more clever acts on television." Her versatility both in front and behind the camera as well as on the stage, has kept her in the heart of her fans.

And returning to the New York City stage for "NEWSical The Musical" is a real treat for the talent, who is fully aware of the audience that awaits her. "New Yorkers can’t be fooled," she said. "or bamboozled. It doesn’t matter how great a star you are." Harry, who got her start as a trained actor in New York, is thrilled that there is so much great theater currently on Broadway including the Tony Winning "Kinky Boots." But she assures her fans coming to see her in "NEWSical" that she will be "fierce!"

So will her most beloved character make an appearance in "NEWSical" while Jackée headlines the show? D’angora certainly hopes so. "Nothing would be more faaaaaabulous! People should get their tickets now - because Sandra Clark just might happen." Harry herself admits that perhaps the infamous character may pop in. "Oh yeah," she says, "Sandra may drop by."

Get your front row seats now when the Emmy Award winning TV icon Jackée Harry joins the cast of "NEWSical The Musical" for a limited run Aug. 23rd - 27th at The Kirk Theatre located at 410 West 42nd Street. For more info and tickets go to
