Sahara Davenport...The Passing of an All-Star

Having first become a national sensation as a contestant on the second season of "RuPaul's Drag Race," New York City nightlife culture is saddened by the sudden passing of drag personality Sahara Davenport. Antoine Ashley (as he was known outside of the performance world) had quickly risen through the ranks of the glamorous club scene. The trained dancer had carved a particular niche as a perfectionist at the art of gender illusion.

Logo released this statement: "Logo is profoundly saddened by the passing of Antoine Ashley who fans around the world knew and loved as Sahara Davenport. He was an amazing artist and entertainer who'll be deeply missed by his Logo family. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family, especially his boyfriend Karl, in their time of need."

Ashley as Sahara Davenport, was in a loving and long-term relationship with another "Drag Race" contestant Manila Luzon, who will be a part of the upcoming new season of "RuPaul's Drag Race: All-Stars" premiering later this month. The two could always be seen together colorfully adding to the drag scene which has since enjoyed a mainstream popularity with the success of the reality series.

It's always sad when such a creative individual is lost within the community, but all the more as Davenport was still in her prime at the age of 28. She will always be remembered for her brilliant smile and uproarious genuine laughter.
