Most media analysts were upbeat about how "Hamilton" would perform when streamed last month, but many were surprised by the size of its audience.

"A staggering 37% of the research firm's panel of viewers in the U.S. watched the filmed musical last month, almost three times the number that watched the second widest-reaching title of that month, Netflix's true-crime docuseries 'Unsolved Mysteries; (14%)," Variety reports.

The research was done by 7Park Data stats provided exclusively to Variety Intelligence Platform.

The "Hamilton" audience is the largest of "any one program over the course of one month this year across 7Park's tracking of Disney+, Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu and Apple TV+ (not included: HBO Max and Peacock)," the Variety report continues.

The showing was also more impressive since Disney+ required viewers to join its subscription service to watch the Tony and Pulitzer-prize winning musical, written by and starring Lin-Manuel Miranda.

"But this latest 7Park data gives the fullest picture of just how massively successful the musical may have been. Separate app analytics firms reported weeks ago that U.S. Disney+ downloads skyrocketed during the July 4 weekend debut of 'Hamilton.'" adds Variety.
