EDGE's New Music Friday: Adele, Adele, Adele & Adele
Adele - "Easy On Me"
As you may know by now, Adele has finally returned. The superstar released "Easy On Me," the lead from her forthcoming album "30," on Thursday evening along with its music video, helmed by out director Xavier Dolan. Produced and co-written by Greg Kurstin (a frequent Adele collaborator who also worked on "Hello"), the (mega) power ballad finds Adele in her zone, delivering the most Adeleish song of her career. Wild riffs, key changes and a soft piano drive the song but it's Adele's vocals that of course propel it. It's her first solo track in five years and though she didn't give us a club-ready bop that some thought was coming, Adele's "Easy On Me" is an instant classic for fans.
PinkPantheress - "To Hell with it"
The mysterious English musician PinkPantherss gained fame this year for going viral on TikTok with her song "Just for Me." After releasing a string of singles like "Break It off" and "Passion" (both of which were released prior to "Just for Me," PinkPantherss is already sharing her first LP. "To Hell with it" features those singles as well as a handful of new tracks — and with every song clocking in under 3 minutes ("Nineteen" is the longest song at 2:33), PinkPantherss' debut clocks in at just 18 minutes — a breezy and super addictive listen.
Coldplay - "Music of The Spheres"
Coldplay return with their ninth album "Music of the Spheres" a spacey album that finds the British rock group teaming up with pop music producer extraordinaire Max Martin for the first time in their career. Coldplay previously released singles "Higher Power" and "My Universe," which features K-pop boyband BTS. The album comes with a few more features, including a track with Selena Gomez and another with We Are King and Jacob Collier.
Summer Walker - "Ex For A Reason (with City Girls)"
Singer Summer Walker's new single "Ex For a Reason" is a cool R&B jam that gets an energetic kick thanks to City Girls' JT, who delivers a dynamic verse on the track.
Mr Twin Sister - "Ballarino"
New York-based band Mr Twin Sister share another track from their upcoming album "Mundo Azul." "Ballarino" is a major bop that builds into an exciting dance floor jam. Speaking of the new song, the band's lead singer Estella said the song is "about having access to a smartphone, and how it changed my lifestyle: looking to it for everything, and being addicted to having it held up in front of your face at all times. The theme is the feeling of something new. Wonder."
Cassandra Jenkins - "Hailey (premix)"
After releasing "An Overview of Phenomenal Nature" — one of the best albums of 2021 — singer-songwriter Cassandra Jenkins announced this week "(An Overview on) An Overview on Phenomenal Nature," which consists of outtakes, alternative versions of songs as well as a new track. She also shared the first taste of the project, a "premix" of the song "Hailey." The original is a lovely and minimal song about a close friend but the new version turns the track into a wonderful synth pop bop.
