It still seems hard to believe, but tonight is the last Dyke Night for the foreseeable future. With Toast converting into a full time restaurant, the popular women's night will be homeless for the first time in 3 years - sadly, that's quite a long tenure for a lesbian night in the Boston area. Hopefully this will only be a brief hiatus, but Dyke Night is going out in style with a monster bash tonight.

Since the end of the marriage battle last summer the Massachusetts Family Institute, which spearheaded the failed campaign to ban same-sex marriage, has kept a relatively low profile, particularly on LGBT issues. MFI's advocacy this year against the transgender rights bill, House Bill 1722, has been the group's lone public foray into anti-LGBT activism since the defeat of the marriage amendment.

Last November the board of directors of SpeakOut, the LGBT speakers' bureau, considered disbanding the organization, which had been plagued by decreasing revenues, an inability to retain board members, and a $4000-plus debt to the IRS. Ultimately, the board opted to continue; in December it launched a strategic plan to get the organization back on track.
