Superbowl XLVIII :: Broncos vs. Seahawks

Kilian Melloy READ TIME: 2 MIN.

The AFC championship-winning Denver Broncos and the NFC championship-winning Seattle Seahawks face off against one another in Super Bowl XLVIII.

The biggest football game of the season will be held at MetLife Stadium (the home stadium of the NFC's New York Giants and the AFC's New York Jets) in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Sunday, February 2. Kickoff time is slated for 6:30 p.m. and will be televised on FOX.

The Teams

Both the Broncos and the Seahawks improved significantly over the last two years, improving their season win/loss records from a respective 8-8 and 7-9 in 2011 to both teams recording a 13-3 at the end of the 2013 regular season. This will be the first time since 1990 that the team with the top-ranked defense (the Seahawks) plays the team with the top-ranked offense (the Broncos).

The Broncos are led by quarterback Peyton Manning. Manning is 37 years old and has undergone a complete career bowl_team1resurgence, having been cut just two years ago by his former team, the Indianapolis Colts, who were under the misguided belief that he was too old and unreliable. The Seahawks are led by 25-year-old quarterback Russell Wilson, who will be making his first Super Bowl appearance after just two seasons in the NFL.

The Entertainment

Opera singer Renee Fleming has been chosen to sing the national anthem prior to the start of the game. The eagerly-awaited Super Bowl halftime show will be headlined by Brunobowl_bruno Mars, the 28-year-old singer-songwriter whose most recent hits, "When I Was Your Man" and "Locked Out of Heaven," both went to #1 on the Billboard pop charts and were nominated for Grammy bowl_chiliAwards. The Red Hot Chili Peppers, a rock staple for the past three decades, will also be performing at halftime with Bruno Mars.

The Commercials

People love to watch the Super Bowl commercials almost as much as they like the football game itself. This year you can expect race car driver Danica Patrick yet again in a GoDaddy.com commercial (if you're counting, this is her 13th Super Bowl appearance representing the brand).

Other commercials sure to get people talking on Monday morning are the promo spot for Dannon Oikos yogurt, with spokesperson John Stamos joined by his former "Full House" castmates Bob Saget and Dave Coulier; the 60-second ad for the new Axe body spray scent Peace, called "Make Love, Not War"; and an ad featuring peanut butter and chocolate going to "cup"ples therapy to promote the new Butterfinger Cups candy brand.
