RuPaul's Drag Race Season 6 :: Hotspots Interviews April Carrion

Kilian Melloy READ TIME: 2 MIN.

Week Four of "RuPauls Drag Race" Season 6 opened with a mini challenge that tested the "Gurls" knowledge of biological or psychological women. The best at this challenge were Adore and Ben, who then became captains of the main challenge "Shade, The Rusical." There were a lot of stand outs but Courtney Act killed the performance and the runway look and was the clear winner.

Trinity, who wants to be the best Beyonce Impersonator and cannot act or sing (insert comment here), and April ended up in the bottom two. To give credit where credit is due, this was a stellar Lip synch for your life, but in the end it was April who sashayed away. April was very sweet and it was a pleasure to interview her.

At what age did female impersonation become an interest & how did you pick your name?

The first time I saw a drag queen, Jessica Wild, it became an interest. I was only 17 and too scared to do it at the time, but two years later I started. My name came from the month I was born and my real last name.

How many times did you apply to be on RPDR, and how did it feel when you found out you got chosen?

I auditioned twice, last year and this year. The video is a pain to make, but it truly is the best feeling to get picked.

Tell me about your "RuPaul's Drag Race" experience?

It was an amazing experience as I got to meet queens from all over the US.

How are you going to leverage your time on "Drag Race?"

It is a great platform to grow. My fan base has grown tremendously. It is sky-rocketing me to things I could have never imagined.

Who do you want to win?

I really like Milk, as he is so outside of the box. He lives in his old world and has his own interpretation of drag and I live for that. I also love to hate Bianca.

Tell me about the man behind April?

Jason is finishing his bachelors, and he is hard working and fun to be around.

You won Gloria Estefan's contest for "Hotel Nacional." Tell me about that experience?

I won a pageant in Puerto Rico and one of the prizes was to audition. We made a video and two weeks later I got the call from Gloria that I had won. I got to fly to Miami and meet her and her whole family. It was such an amazing experience.

What's ahead for April?

I am in a documentary, "Mala Mala," which is about the trans-community in Puerto Rico and is nominated at the Tribeca Film Festival. It's about who you are and who you want to be, and I am so excited to be featured in it.

I am now blessed that because of "Drag Race" I get to do drag for a living now.

In addition, I am starting a campaign to be on the next season of "All Stars," so please have everyone vote for April for "All Stars 2!"
