Hilary Duff Releases "Roommates," Second Single from Upcoming Album Ahead of Sold-Out Tour

READ TIME: 2 MIN.

Hilary Duff, the multiplatinum artist known for her Disney-era hits and albums like "Metamorphosis" and "Dignity", has returned to music with "Roommates, "her second single from the forthcoming album "luck… or something". The song was released on January 15, 2026, by Sugarmouse Inc. and Atlantic Records.

Duff co-wrote "Roommates"with her husband, Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer Matthew Koma—who has collaborated with artists including Britney Spears and P! nk—and Brian Phillips, who has worked with Alec Benjamin and blink-182. Koma and Phillips also co-produced the track, described as a pop and synth-pop song.

In a statement, Duff shared: “Roommates is a song about when life is life-ing, babe. It’s that ache for a wilder, freer time—before the days were swallowed by carpools, budget talks, grocery runs and letting old or new insecurities slip in. It’s the restless hum of wanting to find your way back—to your rhythm, to your person, to yourself. ” The lyrics reflect universal experiences of balancing family life, career, and personal desires, themes that resonate broadly, including within LGBTQ+ communities navigating similar tensions between domesticity and self-expression.

An official music video for "Roommates, "directed by Matty Peacock—known for work with Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande—was released on YouTube. This follows the lead single "Mature, "released November 7, 2025, which garnered over five million global streams in its first week and praise from Vogue for pushing Duff’s sound in new directions while retaining her signature style. "Mature"features a video directed by Lauren Dunn, who has worked with Olivia Rodrigo and Dove Cameron, and has over 3. 3 million YouTube views.

"luck… or something", Duff's first full album in over a decade and sixth studio release, is scheduled for February 20, 2026, via Atlantic Records—her recent signing after a collaboration-rich 2015 EP "Breathe In. Breathe Out." featuring Tove Lo and Ed Sheeran. The album builds on Duff's legacy of selling 15 million copies across early projects like her platinum 2004 self-titled LP and 2007's "Dignity".

To promote the release, Duff launches the "Small Rooms, Big Nerves"mini-tour, presented by Live Nation, marking her first headline shows in over a decade. All dates sold out instantly: January 19 at London's O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire; January 24 at Toronto's HISTORY; January 27 at New York City's Brooklyn Paramount; and January 29 at Los Angeles'The Wiltern. Additional sold-out residencies at Voltaire in The Venetian Resort Las Vegas are set for February 13-15 and May 22-24.

Duff's comeback has sparked excitement in music circles, with outlets like Scene Magazine likening it to a "Saturn return"for the artist who rose via Lizzie McGuire. For LGBTQ+ fans, Duff's evolution from teen idol to mature pop voice mirrors journeys of authentic self-reclamation, amplified by collaborators like Koma, whose work spans inclusive pop acts. The intimate tour venues foster close connections, vital for queer audiences seeking representation in live music. Both singles are available on streaming platforms now, with pre-saves for the album ongoing.
