The Tony Awards, Presidential Breakup Tea, and Coming Out Stories
Andrea Marks Joseph READ TIME: 4 MIN.
X (formerly Twitter) is where everything happens: Presidents go through public breakups, people share iconic and emotional stories from their everyday lives, and we thirst over the actors in our favorite shows. X is where we go to make inside jokes that we'll reference for years. It's where stan tweets shape the culture, and niche hot people are introduced to the internet at large.
How do we pronounce Kesha's album title? Why did the menswear guy recommend marrying an immigrant friend as an alternative to protesting? Could a straight person survive an hour on Grindr? What does it feel like to find your DL uncle on Grindr and watch him get divorced six times? How do you tell your friend you caught her boyfriend cheating while scrolling Shein review pictures? These are the things we should all be asking ourselves. Chaotic questions feel good in a place like X.
Gay Twitter is a product of queer creativity. We're experts at crafting queer joy from life, no matter how dark and twisted our reality has become. We take it on as our loyal duty to the gay people of X to share their incredible work and celebrate what everyone's been up to. The people of Gay Twitter enjoyed queer comedy "Adults" and have crowned their "white boy of the month" from its cast. They rejoice at Tony Award winner Cole Escola's success, share their silly and sweet coming out stories, and appreciate the bisexual Megans of our time. There is so much to enjoy. Join us in scrolling through these gloriously gay tweets.
The Tony Awards
We love a big night of celebs getting dressed up to have fun! We love celebrating queer talent and remembering the icons who raised us. We're so thankful for every diva who brought comfort and drama to our lives when we needed it most. This year's Tony Awards show was filled with top tier talent (which was to be expected with Cynthia Erivo hosting and the original "Hamilton" cast performing). "Astronaut Gail King" had the time of her life, and we all reflected on the enduring power of "Glee" and its Tony-winning cast members. Lea Michele was in attendance and on stage, once again attempting to beat the meme and prove she can read. Tony award-winner Cole Escola was best dressed of the night, and the star of the show for us. We love to see them honored in the way they deserve.
Presidential breakup tea
The presidential breakup between Donald Trump and Elon Musk was entertaining, shocking, and yet somehow just as anticipated as every time we've witnessed someone we dislike going through a Pride month breakup. Musk's father has since told media outlets that the rift between his son and Trump is like "a broken marriage." So true! When questioned about the tension between the two men, Errol Musk asked Sky News, "Have you ever heard of a man and a wife arguing?" Exactlyyyyy. The president told NBC over the phone that "I would assume [the relationship is over], yeah. I'm too busy doing other things." Could this be any more of a classic breakup drama? What a blessing to share the thrilling ride of their public divorce with the great people of Gay Twitter.
It's obviously horrifying that this is our literal president going through drama with his girls over actual federal bills and policies, but we must find a way to cope, and for us, that's Twitter humor. We've enjoyed fancams set to Taylor Swift breakup songs, been shocked by jarring throwbacks to what life was like at the beginning stages of Trump and Musk's political romance, and we stand by Andy Cohen's request to host the reunion.
It's time for our daily dose of hot people!
For your tweeting pleasure, we present to you: a cover photoshoot where "Overcompensating" star Benito Skinner is fully nude, Jodie Comer in stylish lingerie, the surreal reality of Lacoste using Taylor Zakhar Perez's bulge front-and-center for Father's Day marketing, and... unfortunately we must report that the people of Gay Twitter are horny for "Adults" actor Jack Innanen in the most unhinged way.
"Adults" actor and TikToker Jack Innanen is Twitter's "white boy of the month," an honor which has inspired more people to watch the queer comedy, and whether they're doing it for the plot or "for the plot," we love to see support for a messy, chaotic, queer show.
Hot actors Taylor Zakhar Perez (who showed up to show off his gloriously big biceps) and Cooper Koch shared a hunky joint slay selfie as evidence of them meeting up at the French Open; "The White Lotus" twink Sam Nivola stars in a new photoshoot; and "Hacks" star Hannah Einbinder posing in Calvin Klein briefs will always be sexy.
Coming out is a rollercoaster ride
A quote-tweet prompt to share your coming-out stories inspired some hilarious and heartfelt moments. We love being reminded that everyone's coming-out experience is so different and sometimes completely unexpected.
Queer history in the making
One of the best things about Gay Twitter is when you come across a tweet that you know will forever mark a moment in pop culture history. Sometimes a tweet hits the timeline and you instantly feel in your heart that it's going to be iconic. These timeless tweets are ridiculous, imaginative, and insightful – sometimes all at once – and always, always deeply queer. We've got some of those for you to enjoy below, alongside some pop culture moments that we'll always be thinking about. There's monumental TV show casting decisions, Miley Cyrus singing "The Climb," Chappell Roan being the "Apple" girl, K-pop girl group members coming out as queer, remembering the bisexual Megans in our lives, and queer play "Oh Mary!" which made Mia Farrow feel proud to be gay – its transcendent queerness so powerful that it made her forget that she is, in fact, not gay at all.
Bye!
We hope you have a great week, even if it feels decades long. Remember, no matter how messy and unhinged the world feels right now, it can always be twisted into something entertaining and community-building. All you have to do is open up X and keep scrolling.
