When it comes to travel, we LGBT types have some special needs, like: Where can we go without getting hassled? Enter the Canadian TV show Bump!, the world's first program that focuses on the gay traveler. Each episode covers one city or region, starting with an overview, giving some tips for hotspots and events of particular interest to queer tourists, like gay bookstores, Pride Festivals and Mardi Gras parties, and getting the info and history that tour guides don't cover by interviewing local queer experts, historians and business owners. Each episode is only half an hour long, which prevents the show from getting too in depth. That actually works to Bump!'s advantage, as the show concentrates on the basics and refers the viewer to resources like local queer papers for up-to-the-minute info on what club is hot at the moment. In the first disc, perky host Shannon McDonough shows us the gay sides of London, Brighton and Manchester. In the next disc, hunky bubblehead Charlie David leads tours of Mexico City, Puerto Vallarta and Cancun. Future discs will cover Florida, Greece, South America, Eastern Europe and more. Bump! won't replace a copy of Fodor's or Lonely Planet, but it's a great resource for the initial stages of trip planning.
