An assassin with a heart of gold - he only kills "bad guys" - has to go into hiding with his assigned victim when he refuses to finish the job. It soon turns out that flirting and meeting cute has got nothing on digging a bullet out of a stranger's shoulder and then giving him a sponge bath, and before you can say "kiss kiss bang bang," these two men are falling for each other. But what are the odds that they'll even live another day, let alone become a couple? This stylish and moody action/romance starts with a bang, but gets lost as it goes on, with competent action sequences giving way to glacial emotional melodrama that doesn't fit these violent characters. Besides a thin story, the film suffers from bad dialogue, at least in translation, and an overwrought score to match its operatic emotional tone. On the plus side, the film is so gorgeous - imagine if Christopher Doyle shot a Johnny To film, all saturated colors, Dutch angles and noirish lighting - that you could watch it with the sound off and thoroughly enjoy it.
