No more arrests in alleged gay bash

Despite the arrest of Fabio Brandao, a 29-year-old Framingham man believed to be linked to a South End gay bashing, police have made no other arrests in relation to the incident.

"Right now, that remains an active investigation," said Elaine Driscoll, a Boston Police spokeswoman, of the case. "I don't have any developments that I can announce publicly at this time but as soon as we do, we'll certainly put that information out."

It is unclear whether Brandao is cooperating with police to help find the other suspects believed to have attacked four friends as they walked home along Columbus Avenue in the early morning hours of Aug. 24.

"We believe, as do Boston Police, that other individuals were involved in the event," stated Jake Wark, spokesman for the District Attorney of Suffolk County. Wark said he could not discuss whether or not Brandao spoke with police regarding any other suspects in the case.

Jenna, one of the victims who requested that South End News withhold her name for safety reasons, said that she and her friends heard a group of men shouting at them from a parked white sedan. The four friends, who were walking home from a night of clubbing at the Roxy, kept walking, but before long, the four men got out of their car and started coming towards them.

According to Jenna, the perpetrators said, "Fuck you, your fucking friends are faggots," before punching her in the face. When two of her friends came to her aid, two the attackers began beating and kicking them in the face, repeatedly yelling, "Fuck you, faggots."

Fracis Doran Jr., Brandao's attorney, refused to comment for this story.

Brandao plead not guilty in Boston Municipal Court to charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery and civil rights violations. He was released on $10,000 cash bail on Sept. 2.
