Alleged murderer in Yakovleff case to be arraigned this afternoon

Steven Odegard, the Dorchester man charged with murdering 20-year-old Daniel Yakovleff last January, turned himself into Boston Police the evening of Dec. 16 and is expected to be arraigned at 2 p.m. on Dec. 17.

A grand jury returned an indictment against Odegard Dec. 15 charging him with first degree murder after an 11-month investigation by Boston Police. When authorities attempted to arrest him the morning of Dec. 16 at his Dorchester Ave. home he was not on the premises, but Odegard turned himself in to the District 11 police station in Dorchester later that evening.

Yakovleff, a 20-year-old Roxbury man and a popular hair stylist at the South End's Liquid Hair Studios, was found stabbd to death Jan. 17 at Odegard's prior residence on Tuttle Street in Dorchester. Following the 11-month investigation authorities believe Odegard stabbed Yakovleff with a kitchen knife in his apartment. Yakovleff, who was gay, had last been seen the prior evening at the Eagle bar in the South End. Jake Wark, a spokesman for Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley, declined to speculate on Odegard's motive for killing Yakovleff.
