Cambridge Community Television (CCTV) announced August 10 that LGBT rights activist Sue Hyde will be presented with the Leading Role award at the station's annual Backyard BBQ fundraiser on September 17 in honor of her devotion to the LGBT community.

Hyde is the New England field organizer for the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and has worked as a writer, teacher, and public speaker. "Hyde is also a seasoned community organizer and advocate whose issue portfolio has included repeal of sodomy laws, rescission of the military's ban on openly gay, lesbian and bisexual service members, passage of local and state civil rights laws, directing the annual Creating Change Conference, and securing marriage equality for same-sex couples," read an August 10 statement from CCTV.

Other recipients of the award include Robert Bridgeman and George Metzger, for their service to the community.
